What Is Chai Mulch ?
![]()
Terra Nova is pleased to be the sole provider of Chai Mulch. This unique mulch comes from a partnership started in 2003 by Cary Sunberg of SunChai and Ken Foster of Terra Nova Ecological Landscaping in Santa Cruz California. The blend of Ceylon tea, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, cardamom, pepper, cloves, star anise, nutmeg, and orange rind make for a unique and wonderfully smelling garden. As a result of the partnership SunChai was able to reduce their waste by 95%.
Why is Chai Mulch so good ?
Besides the wonderful smell this mulch provides, it also has a list of benifits.
*The PH balance is neutral so it is not acidic to your plants
*Chai Mulch turns into compost after breakdown, which improves the soil quality, retains moisture, and prevents weeds
*Cats have been known to be repelled by Chai Mulch
*The aroma lasts approximately 1-3 months
Some Tips:
*This is a wet mulch, and should not be left in the bag longer then 24 hours or it will mold
*The mulch should be spread with a consistent 2' depth
*Like any mulch, don't allow the mulch to touch the stems or trunks of plants- it will rot the plant- it is best to leave a 3' radius
*It is best to place mulch in a spot that is not "over watered" and not in a busy walking area
